Content Collections are the data types of the Sitellite CMS. They are collections of content items of a single type. The built-in collections are WebPages, WebFiles, News, and Sidebars. Other examples might include Banner Ads, Event Listings, Job Postings, Press Releases, etc.

Each collection has a collection definition file that tells Sitellite about that collection, including its name and properties like where to store its data (ie. a database table or a folder on the server filesystem), where to store its ChangeHistory, and how it should be displayed. This can get as detailed as specifying how each field in the collection should be displayed for add/edit forms, or it can simply point to a custom add or edit form that you would write to handle these tasks.
